Pinoy Big Brother Double Up Big Winner Melisa “Melai” Cantiveros answered questions from the press with her trademark humor at the press conference for the Big Five last Monday, February 15.

On the issue that runner up Paul Jake Castillo of Cebu is more deserving of the Big Winner title, Melai responded, “’Di ko ba lubos maisip na panalo talaga ako. Ang masasabi ko lang po don, luto ba talaga? Kung luto, eh ‘di kainin po lahat ‘yan. Wala na po tayo magawa, ako na po ang in-announce [na nanalo].” Her answer sent the press into fits of laughter.

Melai denied her detractors’ claim that her brewing romance with fellow housemate and third placer Jason Francisco is just a strategy to get the viewers’ votes and sympathy. “Ang masasabi ko lang sa strategy hindi po strategy, technique siguro,” she joked. Melai stressed that she and Jason have true feelings for each other. “Siyempre nasasaktan ako kapag sinabi nilang strategy naman ganun. Over naman mag-strategy. May nagi-inlaban bang nagsa-strategy?” she pointed out. She added that when they were still inside the PBB house, she and Jason made a conscious effort not to be together all the time to prevent the other housemates from feeling out-of-place around them.

She also revealed that she is willing to give up a possible showbiz career for her relationship with Jason if she were made to choose between the two. “Sabi nga po namin ‘wag kaming mag-away. Kahit hindi po ako nanalo basta nakilala ko po ‘yung mga tao at si Jason sobrang happiness. Ang [prinsipyo] ko talaga sa mundo is maging happy ka. Itong [kasikatan] makamundong bagay talaga ito, itong stardom sa buhay mo. Ang isip ko talaga paano maging happy sa buhay ko. Mahal ko si Jason. Kung balakid, parang bye na lang [ang] career.”
